Although an occasional drink won’t harm your heart, it’s important to drink alcohol in moderation. Drinking too much has been shown to lead to high blood pressure. The American Heart Association defines moderation as an average of two drinks per day for men and one drink per day for women. One drink is 12 ounces of beer, four ounces of wine, one and a half ounces of 80-proof liquor, or one ounce of 100-proof liquor.
