Excess gas in the intestines leads to  bloating of the abdomen. The excess gas can cause the abdomen to expand,  which may cause abdominal swelling and pain. Common causes of bloating  and excess gas include drinking carbonated beverages, eating foods that  form gas, swallowing air while eating, and lactose intolerance.
Gas Symptoms
Common symptoms of bloating and excess  gas include nausea, abdominal swelling, excessive belching, excessive  flatulence, and cramping abdominal pain. Additional symptoms that may  occur with bloating and excess gas include diarrhea and constipation.
Gas Treatment
Treatment for bloating and excess gas  depends on underlying cause. Treatment may include eating slowly,  avoiding overeating, and a change in diet. Additional treatment for  bloating and excess gas may include medications that reduce intestinal  gas.
